Makar Sakranti & Kite Festival

Last week, India celebrated Makar Sakranti, a Hindu harvest festival that marks the new year. It is a time of hope for the year to come. Floral images drawn on the sidewalk with colored sand are a symbol of the holiday.




The festival is also a time to fly kites from rooftops throughout the city and to gather in public places to see international kite flyers in the afternoon and evening.
